Colonel General Nikolai Erastovich Berzarin at the final stage of World War II commanded the troops of the 5th Shock Army, was the first Soviet commandant of defeated Berlin and saved the German capital from a humanitarian catastrophe. Berzarin is the largest, Suvorov-like gifted commander, who presented the high command with an original plan for taking Hitler’s headquarters back in early April 1945. During the storming of Berlin, this plan was successfully implemented and after the capture of the Fuhrer's bunker, the garrison of the capital of the brown Reich capitulated. The author is a journalist and writer, colonel, veteran of the 5th Shock Army Vasily Efimovich Skorobogatov was a participant and eyewitness to many of the events described. His book about the true ascetic warrior, Army Commander Berzarin, is a tribute to the great feat of all the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
