The first biography of Daniil Leonidovich Andreev (1906-1959) - a poet and thinker, whose works, published only decades after his death, took a prominent place in our culture. Born into the family of the outstanding Russian writer Leonid Andreev, Gorky's godson, Daniil Andreev lived a life that absorbed all the tragic events of Russian history in the first half of the 20th century. Childhood spent in the family of Dr. Dobrov, which included many - from Andrei Bely and Bunin to Patriarch Tikhon, studying at the famous Moscow Repman gymnasium, and then at the Higher Literary Courses, spiritual and literary searches in the late 20s and 30s years, poetic creativity, ten years of work on the novel “Wanderers of the Night”, Trubchev’s wanderings, the Leningrad Front - these were the main milestones of his biography before his arrest in April 1947. The arrest and accusation of preparing an assassination attempt on Stalin, the basis for which was the written novel, turned the poet’s fate around. Convicted along with his relatives and friends, after the end of the “case” that was reported to Stalin, Daniil Andreev spent ten years in Vladimir prison. His cellmates were the famous V.V. Shulgin, academician V.V. Parin, historian L.L. Rakov and other, often extraordinary people. In prison, he conceived and wrote most of the works that have come down to us - the poetic ensemble “Russian Gods”, “The Iron Mystery”, the mystical treatise “Rose of the World”. After ten years in prison, from which he emerged seriously ill, the poet did not live long, hanging around corners and hospitals and working on finishing his books. A huge role in his fate was played by his wife, Alla Aleksandrovna Andreeva, who was convicted along with him and did a lot to preserve his legacy. Their touching love is one of the storylines of the book. The biography of Daniil Andreev is based on many years of research by the author, who studied and published his legacy, met with friends and acquaintances of the poet, who was friends with his widow. The book tells about the origins of the poet's worldview, the nature of his mystical insights, their spiritual and life basis. The author concerns the fate of the poet's friends, those who played one role or another in his life, many of whom were extraordinary personalities. The book makes extensive use of documents from the era—the archives of the poet and his widow, memoirs, correspondence, interrogation reports, etc.
