A realistic story, where there is no fantastic element (except for the underlying fairy-tale plot) - Wolfe himself classifies it as a horror genre. This is a story about a serial killer, his victims, new-fangled morality and who is to blame for all this. As usual with Wolfe, all this is filtered through the prism of an unreliable narrator (in this case a double prism). Contents • Red Beard (story and afterword by the author) • Additional materials to help the reader: - Translator's Notes (where he explains what and why he lost at translation)—An article by Mark Aramini with a brief analysis of the story (perhaps it will make you re-read the story or look differently at some aspects of the story)
