The Complete Historical Records of Dai Viet is a state chronicle, the central monument of Vietnam's traditional historical thought. Volume 5 includes chapters IX-XI of the Main Annals of the source, describing the events from 1407 to 1459 that occurred during the occupation of the country by the Ming Empire, the national liberation struggle of the Vietnamese people for their independence, as well as the creation of a new Vietnamese state of the Later Le dynasty. The appendix includes excerpts from the Chinese chronicles Ming Shi and Ming Shilu concerning Vietnamese-Chinese relations during this period.
