François Pierre Guillaume Guizot (1787–1874) is one of the key figures in the political life of France during the Restoration era (1814–1830) and the July Monarchy (1830–1848). He was a pioneer in various fields of scientific knowledge, such as pedagogy, constitutional law, history and sociology. Like many of his contemporaries, Guizot pursued two simultaneous careers: political and scientific, but the failure of the former overshadowed the brilliance of the latter. After the Revolution of 1848, not only the political scientist of the Restoration era found himself in oblivion, but also a major specialist in the history of France and Great Britain. It was only from the end of the 20th century that Guizot began to be perceived as one of the significant political figures and profound political thinkers of 19th century France. The Napoleonic Empire and Waterloo, the restoration of the Bourbon dynasty, the July Revolution of 1830, which brought King Louis Philippe d'Orléans to the throne, and the February Revolution of 1848 ., which deprived him of the throne, the Second Republic and the Second Empire, the Franco-Prussian War. Sedan and the Paris Commune - all these turbulent events took place before the eyes of Guizot, and he was not just their contemporary, but often the most active participant. A record holder for the time spent at the head of the ministry, Guizot was not only a key figure in the political history of France during the years of the July Monarchy, but also the head of a large family, a caring father and loving grandfather. Having lost two wives, for twenty years he found personal happiness with a Russian subject, Princess Daria Lieven, the untitled queen of European diplomacy. For historians and everyone interested in the history of France and European history.
