The book contains a number of historical works by Francis Bacon, including “The History of the Reign of King Henry VII”, “The History of the Reign of King Henry VIII”, “The Character of Julius Caesar”, etc. Accompanied by detailed comments, as well as notes by J. Spedding to the 1859 edition year."History." (The history of the reign of King Henry the Seven) is the first essay written by Bacon after he was convicted by Parliament and lost his high position. This is the fruit of the first few months of forced leisure; it began immediately after his release from the Tower in June and was completed by October 1621. Remaining all this time at his Gorhambury estate and without access to archives, Bacon used almost exclusively published historical works, namely the chronicles of Fabian (1516), Polydore Virgil ( 1534), Hall (1548), Holinshed, Stow (1561), Speed (1614).
