This publication is the first in Russia dedicated to the life and fate of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who saved tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Nazis. The book includes a documentary essay by the English journalist John Birman, “The Righteous,” and a report published in 2000 by a Swedish-Russian working group created in the early 90s. to find out what happened to Raoul Wallenberg after his arrest and transfer to the USSR in January 1945. The report is printed with slight abbreviations that do not relate to the substance of the subject. The subsections “Chronology of the first stage of the Raoul Wallenberg case” and “List of changes in chronological order in the state security agencies in 1944 - 1957” were removed. In the “Literature” section, all references are given in the original languages. The name index is compiled for the book as a whole; names are given in the spelling traditional for the Russian language. The final section contains only some of the most important documents.
