This book is about the life of a man on a medieval street. Our hero - often hypothetical - rarely has his own name. But even nameless, he was not necessarily unhappy or homeless and, as we learn from one Egyptian anecdote from the time of the Caliphate, playing with the key to the door of a non-existent house in order to imitate a “worthy position” in the eyes of the street crowd. This person is a man or a woman, whether a simple artisan or a successful merchant, simply a prosperous, or even a noble person, such as, for example, Kichik Mohammed (Little Mohammed), better known as Mamai, and who in the second half of the 14th century. belonged to the Golden Horde city of Solkhat-Crimea, could become the hero of any of the essays only under one condition: his activities had to be reflected in the material culture of his time. An attempt to characterize the streets of a medieval city through a chain of carefully selected artifacts that do not belong to palace life is not new, but as a system of specific observations it was carried out for the first time and is unique in its own way.
