After the publication of the novel Théoda in 1944, Stephanie Corinne Bij (1912–1979) immediately became one of the leading French-language writers in Switzerland. The novel attracted attention with its undisguised sensuality, going back to the prose of Maupassant. The heroes Biy - Theoda and Remy violate generally accepted norms of behavior and forget about everything except passion. They are ready to sacrifice their own and other people's lives on the altar of lust, and therefore their tragic end is inevitable.
