Spring 1942. British officer Maximilian Chadwick is posted to Malta, a British naval base that is being mercilessly bombed by the Nazis. Its goal is to positively influence the moral climate among the local population of the island, which is experiencing colossal hardships, and therefore, carefully dose out information so as not to disturb public opinion. And when Chadwick learns about the brutal murder of several Maltese women, in which an English soldier with manic tendencies was involved, he, without making the details public in order to avoid scandal, undertakes to personally expose the criminal. Carried away by the investigation, Chadwick realizes too late that he is being used in a savage deadly game.
