The book examines the contribution of Soviet-era scientists to the development of historical science. The author strives to restore the connection between times. He believes that the history of historians deserves no less attention than the history of the events they describe. By creating “historiographic portraits” of scientists, describing their life path, creativity, environment, the author strives to show the positive - what Soviet historical science contributed to world historiography, as well as the role of individual contribution to science under conditions of ideological pressure. The analysis of the scientific heritage of various generations of historians is supplemented by materials from personal archives, diaries, correspondence, and memoirs.
