In January-February 1988, in the north of Helmand province, an army operation was carried out to eliminate the gang of Mullah Nasim, which, according to operational intelligence groups, numbered about ten thousand people. The planning and execution of the operation was carried out by the command of the 40th Combined Arms Army. One of the main objectives of the operation was to unblock the power plant in the village.
