The image of Sherlock Holmes is largely based on Dr. Joseph Bell, a teacher at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He often assisted the police, including in the Jack the Ripper case. Jack the Ripper hunted prostitutes in London's Whitechapel, he became the first famous serial killer and, perhaps, still remains number one among his kind. He owes his popularity to his sonorous nickname and mystery. It is still unclear why this man killed. The story "The Strange Habits of Wasps" offers a creepy and very unexpected explanation for the atrocities of Jack the Ripper.
