Ramachandra Dikshitar, a Tamil Indologist, professor of history and archeology at the University of Madras, and a scholarly luminary in the field of South Indian history and culture, devoted his book to the study of ancient Indian wars. The author's attention is drawn to Indian military traditions, starting with the early settlement of Indo-Aryan diplomatic relations and ending with the era of the creation of the Vijayanagar Empire.
