In this book, Lyn Cowan explores the deeper meaning of masochism, helping to free it from the stigma of "senseless cruelty." In addition, she analyzes how masochism becomes an obstacle to realizing the essence of human individuality. According to the author, “masochism is an inalienable reality. This is not an absolute perversion, not a defect, not a deviation from the norm, but an essence: a reflection of the soul during its painful suffering in moments that cannot be described in words. This is a time of testing subtle pain, approaching death, the invasion of terrible images, unbearable passion that ignites both body and soul.”
