“The Fifth Corner” is a famous novel by the Austrian writer Johannes Mario Simmel, which brought the author international fame. World War II. The German banker Thomas Lieven, who lives in London, is unusually smart, speaks excellent English, French and, of course, German - why not a secret agent? However, a convinced pacifist, he diligently avoids the attention of any intelligence services. Having fallen into the clutches of the Gestapo, he agrees to work for German intelligence for the sake of freedom, and later for British intelligence for the right to return to London. Then, having added the position of French agent to his track record, Thomas resigns himself to fate and, taking advantage of his position, tries to save as many people as possible.
