Closed cities, like no other territorial formations of the Soviet period, in terms of their intellectual potential, set the global algorithm for scientific and technological progress in a number of directions. Among such cities is Sarov (Arzamas-16), or, as it was called for secrecy, A-16. The history of the Sarov land in the second half of the 20th century, which largely determined the course of the world historical process, has not yet been studied. All the more important are the first steps taken by nuclear center workers and historians to collect and comprehend previously inaccessible unique material that gives an idea of the daily life of the most important scientific facility. This book will help the reader think about the role and relationship between the spiritual and scientific potential of Sarov, and appreciate the seemingly unnoticeable everyday heroism of the scientists and workers who forged the reliable nuclear shield of the Soviet Union.
