For three long centuries - from the 16th to the 19th - the legend of the Golden Country lived on American soil, the ruler of which, El Dorado, from the Spanish “gilded”, was showered with golden sand, in order to then wash it away in the waters of the sacred lake. In search of El Dorado, many generations of conquistadors, travelers and scientists discovered, explored and described the vast expanses of South America. The book, using materials from ancient Spanish chronicles and other historical documents, recreates the vivid history of these fascinating searches, and also tells about the culture and customs of the Muisca Indian people in Colombia, whose generous imagination gave birth to this ceremony that actually existed.
