This book presents for the first time in Russian the works of the French writer Louis-René Defore (1918–2000): his early story “Chatterbox” (1946), highly appreciated by his contemporaries, especially J. Bataille and M. Blanchot, a collection of short stories “The Children’s Room” (1960), which develops the main themes of “Chatterbox” and was awarded the Critics’ Prize, as well as the poem “The Sea Vixens” (1967) is one of the most unusual and striking examples of French poetry of the second half of the 20th century.
