The First World War, the “proto-catastrophe” of the 20th century, continued in a series of revolutions, civil wars and bloody border conflicts, which subsided only in the 1920s. This happened not only in Russia, Eastern and Central Europe, but also in Ireland, Asia Minor and the Middle East. These almost forgotten battles cost the lives of millions. “War in a Time of Peace” is the subject of the collection. A large place in it is given to the Civil War in Russia and its impact on other regions. The euphoria of the revolution or the fear of Bolshevism, the struggle for territories and borders or disappointed expectations from the new world - all this prompted the masses of the dissatisfied to participate in paramilitary formations, leading to the radicalization of political culture and the coarsening of public life.
