The second volume of the Collected Works of G. Böll includes works written by him in 1954–1958. This is the novel “The Masterless House”, the stories “Bread of the Early Years” and “In the Valley of Rattling Hooves”, “The Irish Diary”, short stories, essays. During these years, G. Bell increasingly turns his work to contemporary problems of Germany, writes many articles on the political situation of the young republic.
