The action of the novel “Porcelain Summer” takes place in the 80s and 30s of the last century. At the center of the story is the fate of a young woman, Christina Goitzenbach. She is unhappy in her marriage, her complex character causes a lot of problems both for her husband - an honest, but dry and limited person - and for other people close to her, which gives them a reason to compare Christina with her long-dead aunt Clara. Clara's life story is shrouded in mystery. Christina decides to reveal the secret that is being kept from her. This is how she meets Clara's grandson Benedict. The young people fall in love with each other, Christina leaves her husband and spends the summer with her lover. At the end of this “porcelain summer” they part. But Christina, unlike Clara, who survived a similar story, is not broken; on the contrary, she feels stronger and more confident than before.
The novel is written in the best traditions of psychological and everyday life prose, while the plot is tense, almost detective character. Criticism notes the accurate recreation of the atmosphere and morals of Austrian society, psychologism, clarity and simplicity of language. This is women's prose, “designed for discerning tastes and at the same time understandable to the general reading public.”
