The first edition of The Jungle Book was published in 1894, and since then the book has been included in the treasury of children's reading. The book opens with the story of the fate of Mowgli, a child who fell into a pack of wolves and grew up among the wild animals of the Indian jungle. Here he found real friends - the black panther Bagheera and the bear Baloo, who took care of the boy and taught him all the laws of the jungle. Mowgli also had a dangerous enemy, the treacherous tiger Shere Khan, who dreamed of dealing with the human cub, but received a worthy rebuff from the boy. There are many other wonderful stories about animals in The Jungle Book. You can read in it the story of how the White Cat, born on the shores of the cold Bering Sea, found a safe uninhabited island for himself and his relatives; you will learn the story of the brave mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, who saved his owners from two deadly cobras; and you will also find here a story about how the Indian boy Tomai saw the magical dance of elephants. The author of this amazing book, Rudyard Kipling, was born in 1865 in India. Having completed his education in England, Kipling came to India in 1882 and here began to write his first stories. By 1889 he had become one of the most famous and widely read writers of his time. And “The Jungle Book” is to this day one of Kipling’s most popular and beloved books all over the world. The famous illustrator of children’s books, Eric Kincaid, managed to wonderfully convey the atmosphere of “The Jungle Book”, full of exciting adventures. In the exquisite and precise manner characteristic of this artist, E. Kincaid recreates the mysterious world of the jungle, making both adults and children admire it.
