The first two stories in the collection “New Arabian Nights” introduce the reader to the adventures of the modern Harun al-Rashid, the fantastic Prince of Bohemia. ...It is enough to read the adventures of the Prince of Bohemia to notice the ironic element thanks to which Stevenson's style acquires such force. Prince Florizel, a romantic, a passionate lover of adventure and at the same time a complacent bourgeois, is always on the border of the great and the ridiculous, until the author finally decides to complete the fate of his hero with a comic epilogue: the former Prince of Bohemia peacefully lives out his days behind the counter of a tobacco store. Thus, both "The Suicide Club" and "The Rajah's Diamond" can be classified more as humor than as chilling stories in the style of Poe.
