This is a dramatic story about the last journey of an elderly, rich French woman, Agnes. Her memories and mental anguish forced her to relive the events that a fortune teller had predicted for her in her youth. She prophesied for her a bright and great love through the seven circles of hell, into which men endowed with biblical vices would throw her. She hires a young girl named Vassa as a companion. Arriving in another city, Agnes tells her the story she has experienced and visits places dear to her heart. Agnes’s extraordinary personality and her interesting, eventful life are gradually revealed to Vassa. She doesn't yet know who Agnes really is, and what the connection is between them.
