2009 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Jewish-Croatian folklorist, writer and sexologist Friedrich Salomo Krauss (1859–1938). The legacy of the Austrian scientist is practically unknown to the domestic reader, although his unique collection of erotic folklore of the South Slavic peoples of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, formed mainly during the Krauss expedition of 1884–1885 to Bosnia, Herzegovina, Slavonia and Dalmatia, can be placed on a par with the famous " Russian folk tales are not for publication” A.N. Afanasyev and “Tales Not for Print” by V.N. Gnatyuk. This Russian edition of “Treasured Stories of the Southern Slavs” is preceded by three articles - the first two are of a purely historical and biographical nature, the third opens the collection “Folk Traditions of the Southern Slavs,” prepared on the basis of Krauss’s archives and published in Vienna in 2002. Placed together, the articles allow us to form a large-scale picture of the personality of the author of this book. Contents.
