The author of the book, a participant in the events, talks about how, together with the crew of the Panther tank, as part of a small group, he broke out of the encirclement into which the German 9th Army and units of the 4th fell under the attacks of the advancing Red Army in the spring of 1945 tank army, totaling up to 200,000 people. The outskirts of the German village of Halbe became the site of fierce battles for the remnants of the encircled group during the breakthrough from the cauldron to the west. It was here that the troops concentrated, thrown back from the front in front of the Kyustrin bridgehead, from positions on the Oder and from the northern flank of the offensive of the 1st Ukrainian Front. In this pocket, 60,000 German soldiers were killed and 120,000 captured. More than 40,000 Soviet soldiers died trying to stop the breakthrough. Civilians also suffered casualties. These dramatic events are not presented in sufficient detail in military historiography, so eyewitness accounts, dramatic and striking events with the bloody truth of war, will become another page in the chronicle of World War II.
