In the novel by the famous French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Leclezio, a Nobel laureate, the fates of two girls are intertwined - the Jewish Esther and the Arab Nedjma (both names mean “star”). Having survived the horrors of World War II in France, Esther and her mother leave for the newly created State of Israel. There, on the road to the Palestinian refugee camp, Esther and Nedzhma only have time to exchange names. The girls will not meet again, but they will remember each other, both of them are hostages of war. And while people on earth will fight, the author says, Esther and Nedjma will remain wandering stars. “I think now about her, about Nedjma, my light-eyed sister with the profile of an Indian, about the one whom I met only once, by chance, not far from Jerusalem, born from a cloud of dust and perished in another cloud of dust as the truck took us to the holy city. I'm thinking about the one I have to find..."* * *Original title: Jean-Marie Gustave Le ClézioÉTOILE ERRANTE
