July 1883. Prague groans under the yoke of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Newspapers in Czech are banned in the city. German professors teach at the university, and students are expelled for freethinking. The townspeople hate the police, who swore allegiance to the Habsburgs, but are not yet ready to rebel against tyranny. Everyone remembers how brutally the previous Prague riot was suppressed. Every third person informs on a neighbor in order to quietly steal someone else's property. In the suburbs, as usual, they are afraid of pogroms... In this boiling cauldron the destinies of entire nations and individuals are melting. Young pickpocket. Old alchemist. Potter rebel. Night porter from a luxury hotel. A grumpy investigator with his own idea of justice. And the Russian detective is a stranger whom fate brought to Prague at the most inopportune moment. Or, on the contrary, at the most suitable one. The streets of the city are restless, people are being killed here - every time at exactly midnight. The Golem, a clay giant from ancient legends, is suspected of terrible crimes.
