Object-oriented programming is the foundation of modern programming languages, including C++, Java, C#, Visual Basic, .NET, Ruby, and Objective-C. Objects are also the basis of many web technologies, such as javascript, Python, and PHP. Object-oriented programming provides good design practices, code portability, and code reuse, but to fully understand all of this requires a change in your thinking. Developers who are new to object-oriented programming should resist the temptation to jump straight to a specific programming language (such as Objective-C, VB .NET, C++, C#, .NET, or Java) or modeling language (such as UML), and instead first take the time to master what the book's author, Matt Weisfeld, calls object-oriented thinking. Although programming technologies change and evolve over the years, object-oriented concepts remain the same - no matter what the platform is.
