Mikhail Solovyov (Golubovsky; Stavropol region, 1908 - USA, 1979), in his own words, a writer with a “variegated biography”, which served as the basis for the biography of Mark Surov, the hero of the novel “When the Gods Are Silent” (1953), “from childhood a man shocked by the revolution,” but then disillusioned with it. The novel is being published in its entirety for the first time. The second part of the book contains the author’s memoirs, written in exile, about his activities as a war correspondent, about the situation in the Red Army in the late 1930s, the Finnish War and the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
