The famous German historian Franz Kurowski devoted his book to the battles for the Baltic states from July 1944 until the German surrender in May 1945, focusing on the Courland bridgehead, which eventually became the Courland cauldron of death. The author analyzes the strategy and tactics of combat operations of both sides in the battles for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, describing in detail the balance of forces, the course of tank, air and sea battles with an accurate indication of the number of combat formations, their weapons and command personnel. Of particular interest are excerpts from original documents and memoirs of eyewitnesses - soldiers and officers of active armies. The book is supplied with maps and photographs. The appendix contains reports from the Wehrmacht command on the progress of the battles in Courland.
