For the first time, submarines solved strategic problems, for the first time the fate of the war depended on their victory or defeat - Churchill later admitted that German submarines almost brought the British Empire to its knees. However, despite the unsurpassed combat skill, courage and ruthlessness of Rudeltaktik (wolf pack tactics), it was not the Kriegsmarine submariners, but the Allied anti-submarine forces that emerged victorious from this battle.
