I dreamed to write a book on creative work of the Moscow Artistic theatre for twenty five years of his existence and about that, how I worked, one of his figures. But went out so, that the last years I conducted with greater part of troupe of our theatre abroad, in Europe and America, and this book I had to write there, on proposal of Americans, and to publish in Boston in English language, under the heading of "My life in art". It changed considerably my primary plan and prevented to say of me very much of what I wanted to be shared out with by a reader. Unfortunately, at present position of our book market I did not have the opportunity substantially to complement this book, increasing her volume, and that is why must drop much of that was remembered, when I looked around on the life in an art. I could not revive for a reader characters of many people working together with us in Artistic theatre, from that one are in plenitude of forces and until now, other already are not present in the world. I could not talk completer about stage-director work and all difficult activity in the theatre of Vladimir Ivanovich Немировича-Данченко and about work of other my associates on work, actors of the Moscow Artistic theatre, that was reflected and on my life. I could not mention activity of office workers and workers of theatre, with that we many years lived in harmony, that loved a theatre and together with us victims brought to him. I could not even name many friends of our theatre on the name - all those, that the attitude toward our business was facilitate our labour and as though created an atmosphere our activity flowed in that.By a word, in a present the kind this book already in no way is history of the Artistic theatre. She talks only about my artistic searches and presents by itself as though preface to other my book, where I want to pass the results of these searches are the methods of actor work and going worked out by me near him.К.
