“The Story of the Destruction of Troy” is a work of late Roman literature, belonging to the genre of so-called “mythological novels”: one of its direct participants allegedly tells about the events of the Trojan War. An eyewitness even knows the facial features and hair color of all Greek and Trojan heroes. In the Middle Ages and even during the Renaissance, “History” replaced the poems of Homer, who did not know Greek in Europe. Its popularity was reflected in dozens of translations and arrangements. The publication includes a Russian translation with extensive commentary. The illustrations are borrowed from her ancient publications. The book is addressed to everyone who is interested in the culture of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
