Lieutenant Klimkovsky, appointed in the summer of 1941 as adjutant of General Anders, observed the activities of the Polish leadership with his own eyes - and wrote about what he saw as honestly as possible. Descriptions of intrigues in the leadership of the Polish Army in the USSR sometimes bring to mind Machiavelli’s sketches, sometimes pages of medieval chronicles telling about greed and betrayal, sometimes scenes from the theater of the absurd. But the facts set out in the memoirs are almost literally confirmed by documents declassified only recently - in contrast, for example, to the memoirs of General Anders himself, which are completely unreliable. Today, when the history of the Second World War has become an arena for political battles, when all conceivable and unimaginable sins are accepted blame the USSR, it is useful for us to remember the true history of Polish-Soviet relations during the war. Because no one has done more to destroy these relations than the Polish leadership itself. And the memoirs of Lieutenant Jerzy Klimkowski are good confirmation of this.
