They planned to include the story “A Spy in Europe” in the collection, but the writer replied: “I wouldn’t say that Spy is a real space opera; Yes, it's a hard sci-fi adventure set in space in the future, but I think space opera should be bigger and more colorful, whereas this story feels claustrophobic! As a result, they chose “Spyri and the Queen”. This work certainly has the heat of space warfare and the genuine strangeness that the anthology's compilers consider to be the hallmark of recent space opera.
