This book is about culture in the digital age. The problem of consumer choice in the context of the massive release of commercial cultural products is put at the forefront. To solve this problem, the author proposes to create a social institution of consumer expertise, based on a mechanism of collaborative filtering with the participation of money. The theoretical basis for its construction is the economics of symbolic exchange - a new scientific discipline that works with personal resources: free time, attention, symbolic capital. From this perspective, a variety of cultural sectors are analyzed - recording, cinema, fashion and luxury... Particular attention is paid to "gray" markets, the role of pirates and speculators, copyright, the economic theory of "stars", advertising, branding and so on.
