“Night witches” is what Wehrmacht soldiers called Soviet pilots and navigators of the 388th Light Bomber Women's Aviation Regiment, who, using old but maneuverable U-2s, carried out night raids on German positions, destroying enemy equipment and manpower. Having accidentally learned about the “night witches” from scanty documentary sources, the Italian journalist Ritanna Armeni was eager to meet the last living participants in those events and, based on their stories, make a book telling about that page in the history of World War II, which is practically unknown in the West.< /p>
