Boris Petrovich Sheremetev entered the history of Russia as a military leader, diplomat, and writer. His famous trip to Europe in 1697-1699. became the line separating Sheremetev, the medieval governor, a participant in the battles with the Crimean Tatars and Turks, from Sheremetev the field marshal, who defeated the best Swedish army in the world. The philosophy of war, strategic thinking and tactical art of the general were undoubtedly influenced by observations of the specifics of military affairs in European countries.
