Kiki. Memoirs of Kiki. Preface E. Hemingway and Fujita. Per. from English and French N. Semoniff. Comm. I. Soboleva. – Salamandra P.V.V., 2011. – 243 p., ill.
The most famous model of the twentieth century, she inspired Soutine and Modigliani, Fujita and Calder, Brassai and Picabia, was Man Ray’s lover and friend of Jean Cocteau and Max Ernst. She was born illegitimate and at the age of 12 she found herself in Paris, at the age of 15 she posed nude for sculptors, at 28 she was elected “Queen of Montparnasse”. She sang in nightclubs, played in nine films, became a talented artist and forever inscribed her a name in the history of that brief and brilliant era when Montparnasse was the center of world artistic genius. The frank memoirs of Alice Ernestine Prehn (1901-1953), famous as “Kiki of Montparnasse,” were prohibited from publication or sale in the United States until the mid-1970s. The first Russian translation of Kiki's memoirs is supplemented in our edition with prefaces by Ernest Hemingway and Fujita, detailed comments and other materials, as well as memoir passages written by Kiki in 1950.
