The book “The Conquered Caucasus” was first published in St. Petersburg in 1904. Alvin Andreevich Kaspari is a native of Germany, a Russian publisher and bookseller. He published the magazines “Rodina”, “Nov”, “World Nov”, the series of books “Library of Novels”, “Cheap Library of Russian Classics” and such popular science works as “The World History of Caspary”. The book “The Conquered Caucasus” includes 14 essays telling about the nature, population and history of the Caucasus from ancient times to the end of the 19th century. The main attention is paid to the dramatic events of the Caucasian War, which ended with the capture of the leader of the highlanders Shamil. The authors of the essays are well-known historians and publicists of their time. Despite the fact that the book was first published more than a century ago, another similar work, giving such a complete and diverse picture of the Caucasus, has not yet been published in Russia.
