American writer Erle Stanley Gardner (1889–1970) is a leading figure in the detective genre. His hero, lawyer Perry Mason, defending his clients, serves not only civil laws, but also defends the laws of honor, justifying people who sometimes find themselves in a very delicate situation from which there is no way out. For this, Mason gains fame as one of the most observant, intelligent and decent servants of justice.
