Early sixteenth century, middle Germany. Retired soldier Yaroslav Volkov returns home after nineteen years of continuous wars. He dreams of a quiet, peaceful life, but, driving through the possessions of a feudal lord, he receives an offer that he cannot refuse: he needs to restore order in the feud. This is not easy to do; very influential people are not interested in order. And not only people, as it turns out a little later. Rutte has long been unclean, and peasants disappear there much more often than in other estates. But the soldier is a strong-willed and brave person, he is ready to take risks for the sake of a reward.
