Saulius Tomas Kondrotas (b. 1953 in Kaunas) is a Lithuanian prose writer, screenwriter, author of three novels and five collections of short stories and novellas. He taught philosophy at the Vilnius Art Academy, emigrated to the West in 1986, worked at Radio Free Europe in Munich and Prague, and since 2004 has lived in Los Angeles, where he opened a macrophotography studio. In the novel “The Serpent’s Gaze” (1981), the author recreates The worldview of the 19th century Lithuanians, their perception of Christianity, describes the influence on human life of rationally inexplicable forces, love, hatred, pride. The novel has been translated into fifteen languages, filmed in Lithuania and Hungary.
