Nuland named his book after the title of Maimonides’ most famous work - “The Guide of the Perplexed” and addresses it to those who have heard something about Maimonides, but are only casually familiar with his work. And although most of the book is devoted to the life of Maimonides and his activities as a biblical commentator, halakhist and philosopher, the author places the emphasis on his medical activities, calling his work “a study of a Jewish doctor, dedicated to the most outstanding of Jewish doctors.”
