Tukaram is one of the greatest poet-bhaktas of Maharashtra. According to legend, Tukaram was a Shudra, the son of a small merchant. During a terrible famine, Tukaram's parents and one of his wives died, and he himself went bankrupt. As a result of spiritual shock, Tukaram became a devotee of Vithoba (Krishna) and devoted the rest of his life to praising him in abhanga verses. Selected translations of these verses are presented in this edition.
