Afghanistan, 1989. The strategically important Gardez-Khost road, after stubborn fighting, came under the control of Soviet troops. At height 3234, the ninth company of the 345th separate parachute regiment was entrenched. In early January, the company’s positions began to be attacked by bandit groups that outnumbered our guys tenfold (!). The brave guys held the line all night, demonstrating an example of courage and bravery. Back to back, shoulder to shoulder, one for all and all for one. They experienced everything: fear, despair, pain, and the bitterness of loss, but none of the soldiers left their combat positions, became cowardly, or betrayed. This is how the feat was born - as always, unexpectedly, among us, among ordinary guys, seemingly out of the blue. And belatedly, bewilderment comes, and a silent question lingers in the throat: where do they get so much strength, so much courage, so much loyalty...
