Radin E. P. Futurism and madness: Parallels of creativity and analogies of the new language of the Cubo-Futurists. Preface S. Shargorodsky. – B.m.: Salamandra P.V.V., 2011. – 94 pp., illus. – Facsimile edition. – PDF. The third issue of the “Avant-garde Library” introduces the reader to “Futurism and Madness” by psychiatrist E. P. Radin (1872-1939), one of the few “lifetime” monographs dedicated to Russian futurism. Along with sharp criticism of futurism, understood by the author as mystical movement, the book contains many valuable observations regarding a number of basic principles of futuristic creativity. Radin pays special attention to the work of V. Khlebnikov, and also gives numerous examples of texts, drawings and paintings of the mentally ill. In the preface to the facsimile reissue of this now rare book, E. P. Radin’s monograph (1914) is considered against the backdrop of debates about futuristic madness and the discourse “ degeneration" and "degeneration" of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
