Frank Herbert (1920–1986) is an American science fiction writer, known throughout the world as the author of the famous science fiction saga “The Chronicles of Dune.” However, the author's creative heritage is not limited to this famous epic. His novel “The Sacrificial Star” can compete with Lem’s “Solaris” in terms of originality of ideas and philosophical depth. Not to mention the fact that this is simply a very entertaining science fiction, in which there is a detailed and deliciously described world of the distant future, interstellar flights and exciting adventures of a galactic intelligence agent. Can a star be an intelligent creature? And can a person establish contact with the carrier of such an alien other mind? Especially when the days are literally counting? Indeed, in case of failure, this intelligent star, in fulfillment of some mysterious agreement, will voluntarily accept a painful death - a death that in turn will entail catastrophic consequences for the entire Universe?
